MariaDB Server to Become Default Database in cPanel

With the release of cPanel & WHM v122, the default database for new cPanel installations will now be MariaDB Server. This will happen in the third quarter of 2024. cPanel’s collaboration with the MariaDB Foundation is based on shared values and the desire to better serve the hosting community. The main reasons for this change are overall stability, performance and long-term support.

cPanel says the move to the new database reflects their commitment to ensuring server lifecycle predictability. Also it will maintain the highest possible performance of each cPanel server. When it comes to providing a solid and reliable hosting environment, the complementarity between cPanel and MariaDB just makes sense.

In their press release, cPanel guarantees that the transition itself will be smooth.

It is also important to note that cPanel support for MySQL is not going away by any means. Although new cPanel installations will use MariaDB by default, all existing installations will remain unchanged and even new users will have the option to choose to use MySQL if they prefer.

We at Max1.Cloud, as a hosting company that wants to give the best to its customers, are pleasantly surprised by this news. We are looking forward for more information regarding the implementation of the new default database for cPanel. In addition, we believe that the hosting services we offer will be much more reliable and affordable in the future.

You can find more information about migrating to the MariaDB on the cPanel blog.

More updates and new documentation coming soon.
